Spaces, tabs & splits
A space for every project, and panes that move the way you think.
Spaces
A space is a set of tabs for one project or one context — Work, Research, Side project. Each space has its own colour, icon and name, and you switch between them by swiping with two fingers on the trackpad or clicking the space bar at the bottom of the sidebar.
In Settings › Spaces you can rename a space, change its icon and give it a working directory: new tabs in an empty space start there instead of your home folder. Right-click a space for Edit Theme Colors…, a palette that colours the sidebar, the window and the terminal together.
Tabs, groups and folders
The + next to the space name opens a new tab, a new agent, a tab on a remote host, or a new group.
- Groups are just a name and some tabs. Drag tabs in and out, drag a whole group, collapse it to a single row that shows how many tabs it has and the most urgent agent state inside.
- Open Folder… creates a group named after a folder; every new tab in it starts in that folder. Open the same folder again and you're taken back to the existing group.
Display options (the slider button left of +) let you choose what tab titles show — the conversation or command, the working directory, or the git branch — and add a second line with the branch and folder. Handy when several worktrees of the same repo are open. Hover a tab for its full title, folder, branch and agent state.
Splits
| ⌘D | Split right |
| ⌘⇧D | Split down |
| ⌘[ / ⌘] | Previous / next pane |
| ⌘W | Close the pane; on the last pane, close the tab |
Each pane is its own rounded card. The pane you're typing in is the brightest; the others dim slightly. New splits start in the same folder as the pane you split from.
Move things around by dragging:
- Drag a pane by its header onto another pane to rearrange the split.
- Drag a pane into the sidebar between rows to make it a tab of its own, or onto a row to merge it into that tab.
- Drag a tab from the sidebar onto a pane to split it in there — left, right, top or bottom.
Right-click a pane for Move to New Tab, Move to Tab ▸ and Move to Space ▸. Drag the divider to resize; double-click it to split evenly again.
Minimize a pane to tuck it into a slim card at the bottom. Minimized panes still show their agent's logo and status, so you know when to bring them back — click to restore, or drag one back to exactly where you want it.
In the sidebar, a tab with several panes collapses to one row; expand it to see each pane with its own title and status.
Inspector
The inspector on the right shows the focused pane's Files, Git changes and Info. Double-click a file to open it next to the terminal — see Files.
