Chat view

The same session, as a conversation instead of a terminal.

Every pane running an agent can switch between Terminal and Chat with the switch in its header (or right-click › Open Chat View). The terminal keeps running underneath — you're only changing how you look at it.

What you see

  • Your messages and the agent's replies, with Markdown, code blocks and links rendered properly. Claude's replies stream in as they're written.
  • Tool calls folded into one line, like Read ExportButton.tsx, ran git status +14 −1. Click to see each call's output or the lines it changed.
  • How long each turn took.
  • A line under the input with the machine and folder of the session, the model, and how much of its context is used.

Talk to the agent

Type at the bottom and press Return. While the agent is still working you can send another message — it reads it at its next step, just like typing into the terminal. The stop button interrupts it, and the session is immediately ready for your next message.

Everywhere

The chat view works for Claude Code, Codex and the other supported agents, on your Mac and on remote hosts. It's also what the iPhone app shows.

Text size has its own setting: Settings › Appearance › Font › Chat View Size.
